Latin American ICSEM Symposium

An ICSEM Regional Symposium was organized in Chile just before an International Seminar on the Social and Solidarity Economy. The programme included two main parts, which complemented each other:

  • The Latin American ICSEM Symposium (ICSEM Taller América Latina), organized by the ICSEM Project, took place in Santiago on May 24-25, 2015;
  • The International Seminar on the Social and Solidarity Economy, "Más allá del neoliberalismo" took place in Santiago and in Talca on May 25-28, 2015. It was organized under the auspices and the joint coordination of the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano, the Universidad Central  and the Universidad Católica del Maule.

The Latin American ICSEM Symposium brought together most Latin-American research teams involved in the ICSEM Project to exchange about key aspects of their work (ICSEM Working Papers, methodological and operational issues linked to the ICSEM questionnaire, and common publication projects):

  • Pablo Nachar Calderón (Chile - I);
  • Sebastián Gatica (Chile - II);
  • Adriane Ferrarini and Luiz Inácio Gaiger (Brazil);
  • Fernanda Wanderley (Bolivia);
  • María-José Luiz Rivera (Ecuador);
  • Gonzalo Vázquez (Argentina).

Several ICSEM Research Partners also took part in the International Seminar that followed, contributing presentations on various themes:

  • La economía social y solidaria: un panorama europeo” (Marthe Nyssens, ICSEM Scientific Coordinator)
  • La economía social y solidaria en América Latina” (Luiz Inácio Gaiger, Brazil)
  • La economía social y solidaria en la región andina” (Fernanda Wanderley, Bolivia)
  • Empresas sociales y relación con otros actores: la experiencia del comercio justo” (Benjamin Huybrechts, Belgium)
  • Viabilidad y sostenibilidad de las experiencas asociativas” (Gonzalo Vázquez, Argentina)

Marthe Nyssens, Benjamin Huybrecths, Gonzalo Vázquez and Luiz Inácio Gaiger also took part in the panel session on “Realidades internacionales de la Economía Social y Solidaria”.
